Using in MS Word - Mail Merge
Return to Introduction  Previous page  Next page

Go to Tools -> Mail Merge... and click on Create -> Mailing Labels.
Word_Mail_Merge2

Click on New Main Document to create labels in a new Word file.
Word_Mail_Merge3

Click on Get Data -> Open Data Source....
We will be using an Excel spreadsheet for our barcode data.
Word_Mail_Merge4

Select the Excel file Mail Merge Data.xls from:
C:\Program Files\BarCodeWiz ActiveX 2.0\Mail Merge Example\Mail Merge Data.xls
You may have to select MS Excel Worksheets (*.xls) from the Files of type pulldown before you will be able to see the file.
The location of the file may be different if you installed BarCodeWiz Barcode ActiveX Control in a different directory.
Word_Mail_Merge5

Click OK and then Set Up Main Document in the next two dialog windows.

Next, select the label type. We will be using Avery 5163 - Shipping, which is 2 x 4 inches, 10 labels per page. If your printer is laser or an ink jet, make sure you select Auto Select from the Tray pull-down. Next, click on OK.
Word_Mail_Merge8

Next, let's set up our label. Click on Insert Merge Field -> Barcode.

This is what our new document should look like.
If you wish to make your labels centered, simply click Ctrl+A to Select All, and click on the Center button on your Word toolbar.
Word_Mail_Merge15

Click on Main Menu on your toolbar, and click on the barcode image to change any properties, such as barcode type, height, color, text fonts, position, and more.
Word_Toolbar
Once you have chosen the desired barcode properties, close Main Menu and click on Convert All <>. This will generate barcodes as shown below. You may save the newly created document and freelly distribute it to anyone (as long as you own a license for BarCodeWiz ActiveX). Because the barcodes are stored as metafiles (images) within the document, your recipients need not have the program installed on their machines.
